Badminton

Welcome to the SEMSA Badminton Club.

We are an open club for all individuals from all different backgrounds and ethnicity, and we bring together people from all over the world and share the lovely game of badminton! Whether you live here, or are visiting Scotland for afar, and enjoy playing badminton, then why not bring your skills to our club and mix with the likes of people from, Scotland, England, Ireland, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, China, Spain, Greece, Barbados, Nigeria or even as far as Australia!
Our Club has been around since 1989 at different venues and has welcomed almost every nationality possible!
Our club runs every Sunday evening at 5pm to 7pm and we have 4 dedicated courts located at the National Badminton Academy at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.
We have members who have played the game for over 10 years to 10 months so our club is fully versatile with beginners to advanced tournament players. Simply turn up at the badminton building and ask to be directed to the courts booked by SEMSA or speak to a SEMSA coach.

The club is organised by SEMSA Trustees, Rocky Bagha & Gregory Thomas.

The Ai Yu cup 2024

(Scottish Chinese Team Championship)

SEMSA participated in the Ai Yu cup, the Scottish Chinese team championships for badminton, taking place in Edinburgh. The format was Sudirman cup style, where 2 clubs face off with a match for each discipline in MS, WS, MD, WD, XD. 10 clubs overall participated on the day, with a number of local businesses sponsoring the day and prizes.

Representing SEMSA was Shinyi Breslin, Amanda Li, Dorothy Jim, Kenneth Ip, Kiran Pamidimarry, and Rajdeep Katamreddy.

In the group stage with 2 groups of 5, top 2 got through to the top 4 playoffs.

In SEMSAs group we came third, with the top 2 eventually reaching the finals. We were able to take a Mixed Doubles win against 1 finalist and WD and XD against the other finalist.

For Group A 3rd Vs Group B 3rd place match, we won 4-1 overall giving us 5th place.

There were a great number of participants, and the format was good fun with plenty of cheering and support from teams in the hall. A successful event and a pleasure to represent SEMSA!
